Hundreds of call centers operating in Ukraine carry out fraudulent schemes. Most of them are related to digital banking, transfers, and finance in general. The scariest part is that an ordinary citizen finds it difficult to distinguish calls and requests from fraudsters, as the numbers often mimic official ones. Add to this the blocking of funds, and you get a “client” ready to give away their last money to “solve the problem.”

Often, the victims are elderly people, but increasingly even financially literate users trust fraudsters. One confirmed case is our recent project. Here, an individual was literally tricked out of money. But the fraudsters did not stop and continued to apply pressure, which became the focus of our collaboration.

Do you want to know how this story ended? Check the following parts of the case!

Client: an Individual Affected by the Unlawful Actions of a “Bank”

Our client faced a situation that required legal evaluation. Although her accounts were blocked and funds frozen, she was receiving calls demanding transfers supposedly for payroll crediting. The situation was obviously unlawful, and the pressure from the fraudsters only increased.

Therefore, this individual turned to Lawrange experts with the following tasks:

  1. Verify the legal status of the financial entities making the claims.
  2. Analyze the provided contracts for legal validity.
  3. Assess the legal nature of the claims for additional payments and possible signs of fraud.
  4. Conduct a check of the “banks” regarding registration, licensing, and reputation.
  5. Identify and initiate official actions to protect the client’s rights through competent authorities.

From the very first consultation, we understood: this was 100% fraud. Therefore, we took on the project with the goal of protecting the client. Spoiler – we succeeded, although not without certain difficulties.

Process: Contacting Relevant Authorities and Detecting Fraud

After receiving all the necessary data from the client, including receipts, contracts, account details, and information about the institution, we began our work. The “company” was quite well-known, although it had previously avoided responsibility for unlawful actions.

After studying all the details, Lawrange experts:

  • Conducted an initial legal analysis of the situation and documented the claims made by pseudo-financial structures.
  • Checked the provided contracts and established their legal invalidity due to the absence of details, signatory authority, and essential terms.

  • Investigated the legal status of the “banks” and found no registration, no licenses, and numerous signs of fraudulent activity.
  • Assessed claims for additional payments and identified them as having signs of fraud, potentially falling under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
  • Prepared and submitted appeals to the NBU, Cyber Police, and other competent authorities.
  • Provided recommendations for verifying financial institutions before entering into any future relationships.
  • Formulated a further action plan for legal protection and risk minimization.

In the end, the task was successfully completed. Although challenges arose during the work, including refusals to respond and requests for additional justification, the Lawrange team effectively overcame them.

Result: Protection of the Client and Her Funds

The client’s appeal to Lawrange specialists resulted in a complete victory. We did everything possible to neutralize the pressure on the individual from the pseudo-banking institution. In particular, we submitted inquiries to several competent authorities. Fraudsters now face inspections, administrative, or even criminal liability.

As a result, the client received:

  • Confirmation of the fraudulent nature of the claims and legal invalidity of the “contracts.”
  • Evidence of the absence of registration and licensing of the entities making the claims.
  • Prevention of further financial losses and cessation of pressure from fraudulent organizations.
  • Prepared submissions to the NBU, Cyber Police, and other authorities for official response.
  • A clear plan of further actions and recommendations for safe interaction with financial institutions.

And this cooperation did not end here. We agreed on further support and protection of the client’s interests in all instances handling this case. Currently, we continue working confidently toward recovering compensation for moral damages caused by the fraudulent organization.
